forum 6: Column idea
"Scared to Desk,"
A column about the difficulties of overcoming the fear of failure and following passion. I know the title idea is a little cheesy, but when I thought of a it a little light bulb turned on in my head and I thought it was pretty brilliant at the time.
There are so many people who are terrified of taking chances, which is an understandable fear of the unknown. The world is a scary place, and most people are just trying to provide for themselves and their families. A long with that fear comes with a lot of missed opportunities though.
I think what I am going to do is interview various LBCC students and ask them what they do, what they want to do and why they want to do it. I will focus on college students and their incentives for going into certain careers.
A lot of people look at work as just a means of compensation, finding joy and happiness in other things such as volunteering or their families. I want to delve deep into what makes people tick, and a long the way discover the tendencies of people who want to chase big dreams but are too scared to follow them anywhere.
Everyone is in the pursuit of happiness, but a lot of people are too scared to work hard and take the risks that will lead them there. The world would be a pretty despicable place if it was full of people who hated their lives Monday through Friday. No one wants to be "that guy," so I think people just need a little extra encouragement to take the leap.
