Photographer of the week: HERB RITTS

HERB RITTS:

I chose Herb Ritts, Because I instantly connected with his creative vision when looking through his pictures. I am drawn to the fine lines and lighting in his photography. He was always so confident around celebrities and people in prominent places. I think that is very admirable in a photojournalist, because it gives them a sense of comfort in themselves and their creativity.

this one pictured. This is a photograph of a Versace dress backview in 1990. This picture is iconic in the fashion industry and is known as an "iconic fashion photograph," but I love it because it represents Herb Ritts perfectly. The use of the background, and the distortion of her body is what Ritts was known for, and it all lies in this image.

Before Ritts work was famous, he had an aspiring actor friend who he decided to go on a road trip with. This friend was known as Richard Gere. Herb Ritts decided to photograph Richard at a gas station in San Bernadino, and when Richard's publicist got a hold of the photos they were issued in magazines such as Vogue and Esquire. This launched both of their careers, and is inevitably the claim to fame of Herb Ritts. Of coarse his talent and attention to fine lines and clear backgrounds is what set him apart from the other photographers of his time though.
